Since you book directly with me (Rob), I can give you some local tips for walking/biking trails, fishing reports, etc. Having a property manager who knows where to get answers comes in handy when you're looking for a bait shop, boat repair, fresh baked loaf of bread, old time candy store, homemade ice cream, local winery, etc. Our Great Escape is within driving distance of events like Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival, North Country Trail, Fall Fest, Wine Tasting, Musky Fest, weekly Lumberjack shows. And, in case you did not know, this is the “Golf Capital of Wisconsin” so bring your clubs.

Fabulous

Upon arrival, my first impression of the Our Great Escape rental was how well maintained the house and surronding grounds were. Large trees provide the natural beauty of the woods yet cleard enough to avoid feeling crowded. Once through the door, to my surprise the whole house appeared newly remodeled, top to bottom. The entire layout of the kitchen and living area is what you would commonly see built today. I wish my own home was as updated and nice as this place. The Great Room is entirely conducive to those desiring to spend quality time with family and friends. Plenty of seating and room to lounge. Everything was very clean, comfortable and beautifully done. Once outdoors, you begin to appreciate the natural beauty of this lake and the surrounding area. Being a \"Quiet Lake\" allows you to enjoy God\'s awesome creation without the distraction that modern water sports bring. The boating observed on this lake is calm and not a nuisance. The sound of loons and the observation of bald eagles fishing really took me out of my suburban world. Truly a great escape!

Fantastic

\"Our Great Escape\" was our family\'s first introduction to vacationing in Wisconsin and what a fantastic first impression! Winding along the tree lined road encircling the Lost Land Lake we were captivated by the beauty of this forest setting. What a pleasant surprise as we turned into the circle drive and pulled up to an immaculately maintained property. Once inside we were equally impressed with the decor featuring a stunning great room, comfortable furnishings, top-notch kitchen, and special amenities that made our stay so enjoyable. We particularly enjoyed the screened in porch with an unrestricted view of the lake. From the porch we could read a good book while keeping close eye on our kids swimming at the beach or fishing off the dock. Space doesn\'t permit us to list all the things we liked about \"Our Great Escape\". We look forward to returning soon!

Beautiful property

\"Our Great Escape\" is just the right combination of modern convenience and rustic beauty. Located in a choice location on Lost Land Lake, this spacious cabin comfortably accomodated our group of 10. While the men were fishing for Muskie, Northen, Crappie and Bass on one of the area\'s premier \"quiet lakes\", the ladies enjoyed sunbathing, swimming , relaxing on the porch, bike riding and scenic walks. One morning we were thrilled to see a red fox as we walked along one of the many paths in the area. And what would a vacation be without shopping? Nearby Hayward is full of northern charm, sporting some interesting shops, a delicious bakery, some of the best ice cream in Wisconsin and a Muskie Museum for the diehard fishermen in our group. At night we enjoyed sitting around the fire pit eating s\'mores, relaxing in the great room playing one of the many board games provided by the owners and enjoying movies on the 42\" big screen television. We can confidently say that the owners of \"Great Escape\" provide every special ingredient necessary for making your vacation in Wisconsin one of the best ever! We whole-heartedly recommend \"Our Great Escape\" to anyone looking for an enjoyable week away from the hustle and bustle of life.

This home is perfect

This home is perfect to rent whatever size family you have. It has plenty of bedrooms and the kitchen/dining room/living area is one open area to give it a very spacious feeling. The view from the kitchen area overlooking the lake is just beautiful. This home also has a screened porch with many chairs to sit and overlook the lake while you read, play a game or just enjoy your favorite beverage. In the living area there is a VHS/DVD player with a large TV screen. You can bring some of your favorite DVD\'s or tapes to watch in the evening. Depending on the amount of rainfall during the year, there is a very sandy area by the lake for the children to play. Not too many nearby homes have this nice sandy area for the children to play. If you are looking for a serene vacation place with all of the comforts of home this is the place for you.

Beautiful home

Dear Rob, Words cannot properly describe the enjoyment that we had up north at your beautiful home on Lost Land Lake. Your place is deluxe and the accommodations were near perfect. We saw lots of wildlife, caught a few fish, and simply enjoyed. The pontoon we rented was great for fishing and cruising. My sisters, their husbands and Bunny and I wish to thank you for allowing us to rent your \"Great Escape\". Next year we hope to have our children join us and rent \"Our Great Escape\" in late June or July. We\'ll let you know soon. Thanks agin Salem and Bunny

Perfect vacation week

Our family of 10, ages one year to grandparents had a restful, wildlife filled week at Our Great Escape. I can only imagine the beauty this Fall. The screen porch was a hit for quilting and a game of Uno Attack. Grandpa enjoyed reading out there. We were blessed to have found this home so well furnished, thank you.

Wonderful Home!

This was our first time at Our Great Escape. We stayed four days. Upon arrival, we noticed how bright, airy and clean the house was. The extra effort that was taken to make you feel welcome was apparent. We felt at home right from the start. Jim fished, I read, we walked, we watched the ducks, loon and deer. Our only regret was that it was over too fast. Next year, Lord willing, we plan to stay a full week. Thank you for sharing your wonderful home with us.

Amazing!

If you are on the fence about Our Great Escape, fall off and sign up! The brochure pictures do not do this fine lakehouse justice. We absolutely loved our week at \"the house\". The grandkids loved the beach area. They enjoyed feeding the ducks and fishing off the dock. As a side show, it was funny watching the fox kit chasing the duckings in an attempt to capture its own meal. It even sunbathed on the dock a few times. Fishing on the lake is wonderful as well. Excellent for pan fish, bass and musky. Our stay here was a wish come true for us, as we have loved looking at the home for years from the lake, as we would fish our way around the bay. The quiet, wildlife, and the true hominess of Our Great Escape made for a dream vacation. Make it yours!

Wonderful

Dear Rob, Again we would like to thank you for letting us share \"Our Great Escape\". It is our second trip to your lovely home. Our children and grand children were delighted with the luxurious and spacious \"Up North\" accommodations. The kitchen and dining area were perfect for our large family. The huge, comfortable great room area was enjoyed by everyone...especially by our grand babies. One of them did her first crawling there! What wonderful memories! It was a perfect setting for our family get-together. We saw three fox, lots of ducks, loons and other wildlife. The pontoon boat we rented was perfect for fishing and cruising. All and all we had a wonderful time and made lots of fond memories. Thank you for everything. Salem and Bunny

We loved the house!

We loved every minute of our week in this sunny and welcoming home on Lost Land Lake. The sunrises and sunsets are breathtaking and the wildlife viewing is terrific. We spent hours on the screened porch or just sitting on the dock reading, fishing and feeding the baby ducks. At night it was cool enough to make a fire in the beautiful fieldstone fireplace. The cabin is perfect - everything we needed was right there. We were able to rent a pontoon for the week from Wilson\'s Bay and Lost Land and Teal Lakes are perfect for cruising and fishing. We\'re hoping to return some time in Sept. or Oct. to see the beauty of the lake and woods in the Fall. We also enjoyed a trip into Hayward to see the shops and try out the restaurants. We had a great time and can\'t wait to return to Our Great Escape!

Loved it!

We vacationed from July 11-18 at Our Great Escape with our children and grandchildren. Rob and his staff have renting out a vacation home down to an art - no details are overlooked! From a Great Blue Heron walking on the dock to the fox running through the yard (and a BEAR sighted down the road along with deer with fawns) - what a nature adventure for us. We packed about 3 weeks of fun into our 1 week vacation. We would recommend this \"vacation spot\" to anyone - bring your smiles and adventure caps with you!!

Awesome family house

Awesome time in Hayward, WI on Lost Land Lake. This place is beautiful and the setting is serene. Fox, deer, bears, turtles ...and even a few muskies! This piece of luxury in the north woods was a great find.

Wonderful Home!

My wife and I along with my son, his wife and my granddaughter recently spent a wonderful week at this property. The property is even more beautiful and functional than shown on the owners website. We have rented numerous properties found on the internet in the past, but have never worked with someone as organized and responsive as Rob. Everything is detailed for you and the house is set up perfectly and well supplied for your stay. Cooking in this kitchen is like being at home. The great room is not only funtional but also very beautiful. The bedrooms and bathroom facilities are top notch. The screened in porch lets you enjoy the quiet and beauty of the lake without having to worry about the evening bugs. the word quiet lakes is used to describe the 10 mph speedlimit but can also be used to describe the quiet and peace found in these surroundings. Wildlife including deer, fox, otters, eagles, looks, ducks and geese are abundant, and are usually the only sounds you here on the lake. This is a first rate property with a first rate owner, and is one of the few vacations we have ever taken where we came back totally rested and relaxed. This was a first class experience highlighted by the home and the overall experience.

Beautiful

We just spent a week at this beautiful and meticulously cared-for cabin in one of the most heavenly settings in Hayward. The cabin is spacious, sunny, immaculate and every attention to detail is taken care of. We rented a pontoon boat from Wilson\'s Bay (reserve in advance!) and explored the quiet lakes, fished, cruised, watched the baby eagles and lots of wildlife and beautiful sights. We would highly recommend this lovely home to anyone, any time of the year. We\'re already counting the days till we return next summer!

Great House

What a great house for our family, 6 adults and 4 grandchildren under the age of 5. The grounds are well-maintained and the house was exceptionally clean. We\'ve rented many houses and Our Great Escape is one of the best. Rob\'s attention to details can not be exceeded. The gently sloping sand beach, playground, and loft were great for the children. All the amenities contributed towards a GREAT vacation for the entire family. We definitely recommend this property.

We love this place!

Our family enjoyed a truly fantastic experience in a perfect North Woods setting. We traveled from Southern California with 2 young children for our vacation and the property could not be better set up for a family. Everything we needed was readily available, clean and organized. The lake front is great for small kids, gently sloping and a clean, gradual beach to play in. We rented a pontoon from nearby Wiilson Bay Lodge which was perfect for cruising Lost Land Lake. I\'m still amazed by the amount of wildlife we experienced and the kids were in awe. Rob does an exceptional job managing the property. Every detail from directions to information about the Hayward area is covered. The house is beautful and very well maintained; few home kitchens are as well equipped! I would definitely recommend this property for a family vacation and we look forward to returning next summer.

Perfect

We rented this beautiful lakehome for our group of 7 adults + 2 teens. It was the perfect setting for a relaxing family gathering. The home is gorgeous and immaculately cared for. Although it is spacious and well suited to a large group - the furnishings are comfortable (especially the brown leather couch in the great room - a favorite \"napping spot\") and provide a cozy feel. One of our favorite spots was the screened porch overlooking the lake. With plenty of seating for our group - it was the morning gathering spot for coffee and perfect for my 85-year old mother-in-law. As the early riser in our group, she was able to sit out on the porch in the early morning and enjoy the wildlife activity without being bothered by those pesky mosquitos. Speaking of wildlife, we had the wonderful opportunity to see deer with baby fawns, coyote, red fox, sandhill cranes, osprey, muskrats (busy little fellas), snapping turtles, loons and Canadian Geese. Two of the highlights were monitoring the daily activities of a pair of Bald eagles on their nest with two juvenile eagles. Such a magestic bird. (Be sure to bring your binoculars). We also had a black bear sighting while driving into town one night. Quite the excitement for us city folks. We took the advice of others and rented a pontoon boat for the week from Wilson Bay Lodge. (We also rented well in advance). It was great to have the pontoon to take out for fishing, for an evening cruise or to head over to the adjoining Teal Lake. We spent most evenings fishing from the dock. One of the best fishing holes appeared to be right in front of our dock. There was always a fisherman casting a line nearby. Of course, we were just able to toss in a line from the dock and reel in our catch. It is a bit of a drive into Haywad - so only went in a few times, but it was very convenient to have the 24-hr Walmart there to pick up our fishing license and supplies. A few of us spent a few hours at the LCO Casino one evening. It is a friendly place and we all had a fun time there. Another highlight (especially for the guys in our group) was to have dinner at the ORIGINAL Famous Dave\'s BBQ on Round Lake. If you are looking for a beautiful setting and a clean, comfortable vacation spot, I woudl highly recommend this lakehome property. Rob is so organized and thorough in his preparations for your arrival - you will feel like you have your own personal concierge.

Amazing!

We\'ve been going to Lost Land Lake for 10 years. The previous 9 years were spent in some very \"rustic\" cabins. This year we decided that our group of 9 (8 adults and a 3 year old) would be better suited in a home. After doing the research, we decided upon OGE - and we were not disappointed. Actually, that\'s a ridiculous understatement. We were completely blown away! The property is exactly as billed on the website. The location is spectacular and the amenities are wonderful. As much as we enjoyed the \"rustic\" cabins of the past, it was very nice to have a sparkling clean home with all the comforts of home, to live in for the week. From the awesome kitchen and sleeping arrangements, to the private beach area and the abundance of wildlife everywhere you look (loon, otter, beaver, fox, bald eagle, deer) to the fantastic fishing off the pier...just a wonderful experience all the way around. When you\'re not cooking in the home, head to Lost Land Lake Lodge for dinner; on Fridays, check out the Walleye fish fry at Totem Pole Lodge (cash only!). Be sure to rent a pontoon from Jim at Wilson Bay Lodge (which you can take to LLL Lodge). He has great rates and with a large group, a pontoon is a must for cruising around Lost Land Lake and taking the channel up to Teal lake. We also highly recommend taking a tubing trip on the Namekegon River. Over the years we\'ve tried all the places (Jack\'s, KOA, etc.)-by far the best is Camp Namekegon off of 63 and Hwy E. They have the best tubes, best river route and very friendly staff. If you head into downtown for some shopping, make a stop at Tremblay\'s candies - you will not be disappointed. And of course, stop at The Happy Hooker for any of your fishing needs (they have some awesome local bacon as well)! We\'re all looking forward to returning to Lost Land Lake and OGE next summer, and for many summers to come. A big \"thank you\" to Rob for providing an amazing venue for an unforgettable family vacation.

Beautiful Cabin

This is our third time renting this beautiful cabin and we are never disappointed. Everything is meticulously cared for and we never tire of our stay. This year the owner added WiFi, which helped tremendously by alleviatig the workload when we got home. We spent our days riding on a pontoon rented from Wilson\'s Bay Lodge, fishing, photographing wildlife and simply relaxing on the breezy screened porch or in the Adirondack chairs on the lawn overlooking Lost Land Lake... The setting is heavenly, with spectacular views of both the sunrise and the sunset. A perfect getaway for a small or large family.

A great house

My family and I have been vacationing on Last Land Lake for almost 25 years. We have family in Wisconsin and have developed some close friendships with folks we have met there over these years. While we have stayed in one place previously, we decided that it would be nice to stay in a place where all of us could be toghether (4 adults and 5 adult children). Living in the Northeast can be hectic and stressful at times, and being able to get away to the quiet and beautiful lake areas of Wisconsin is a blessing. While we\'ve typically enjoyed our previous vacations on Lost Land Lake, none compared to this one. The beauty of the lakehouse - both inside and out - was amazing. It was clean, comfortable and inviting. This is one of the first times in the nearly 25 years where we \"ate in\" almost every night, because we just did not want to leave! We enjoyed beautiful sunrises, amozing wildlife watching cruises on the pontoon (rented from the nicest people at Wilson Bay Lodge), nightly fires in the firepit, star gazing, daily walks through the beautiful woods, breathtaking sunsets, fishing, horseback riding, reading, and even one amazing thunderstorm with lightning blazing over the lake! Most importantly, the serenity and comfort of the lakehouse gave us the wonderful opportunity to spend time with our adult children who just love Lost Land Lake. We are already counting down the weeks until our return!

Great time

We had a great time at Our Great Escape! There were so many amenities that it made packing and traveling easy for our family. Rob\'s communication leading up to our trip was second to none. Any questions we have about the property, Lost Land Lake, and the Hayward area were all answered prior to our leaving. We felt like we were on vacation with the comforts of home.

Awesome

We had an awesome vacation at Our Great Escape. The home was so comfortable that most mornings, upon waking, it took me a minute to realize that I wasn\'t in my own bed! The pictures on the website are great, however, seeing is believing. When we walked in and looked around, the house exceeded our expectations! We had 8 adults and 2 children (ages 14 & 11) in our party and there was plenty of room. We never felt like we were on top of each other. The owner had thought of EVERYTHING! The kitchen was better equipped than mine at home. The wildlife is everywhere. We saw fox, deer, eagles, ducks and loons everyday. We rented boats from Wilson Bay - very nice folks! In sharing our pictures with friends and family, they all say \"Wow, what a really nice house!\". Memories were made that will last forever. Thanks OGE!!

Relaxation

My family and I recently stayed at this house for our annual vacation. Our family is large (2 adults + 5 kiddos) and we had extra family visiting (+3 more adults). We cannot say enough about how wonderful the home, location & owner are. Absolutely everything you could want is already in the home. We found the house easy to get around (especially since we have a special needs teen who is in a wheelchair). there is super easy (and short!) access to the dock and lakefront. The owner is very conscienous and thoughtful ... anything that might need instructions has them and they are ready and waiting. And, for those Moms out there...the house is the cleanest I have ever encountered when renting a summer home. We had such an amazing time, I know we will be remembering this from years to come. Everything you see in the description and pictures is 100% accurate. The fishermen in our family LOVED the fishing and had great results. The non-fishermen in our party enjoyed the peacefulness of the lake and house. We travelled from Northern Florida to vacation in Hayward and the owner did a fabulous job making sure we had plenty of information about the area and activities for everyone. We rode horses at the Spider Lake Riding stables (from the house, its a right onto 77 and you\'ll find it on the left in about 2 miles.) Great folks there, too. Bought killer bread from the Hayward Bakery downtown. Took a very comfortable day trip to Madeline Island so the kids could see one of the Great Lakes. You won\'t be disappointed if you choose to stay here!!!

Beautiful home

We could not have asked for a better vacation experience than we had at OGE. The home was lovely and accomodated all 10 of us comfortably. The view of the lake was amazing. We enjoyed sunsets, the early morning fog on the lake, the call fo the loons, watching the red fox trot up the hill in the morning, gathering around the campfire each evening, sharing meals together, fishing, watching the eagle soaring above. It was a joy to visit with the family of ducks that came each evening and sat in the sun on the shore near our campfire. We had fun tubing down a nearby river and going into Hayward for the annual Muskee Festival. It was one of the best vacations experiences we have had as a family.

Great experience

My family and I had the most amazing week at OGE!!! Everything about the experience met or exceeded our expectations. I can\'t say enough about what a fantastic time we had here - absollutely everything we needed was already at the home. We had a large group: 6 adults + 5 kids (ages 2-8) and we had plenty of space and felt very comfortable. The entire week was so incredibly relaxing. It was the perfect place for all of us to be able to just enjoy being together, although there was plenty of speace for individuals to have quiet time for reading, napping, etc. The property is beautifully maintained and the owner attended to every detail we needed both before and during our stay. The entire house was very clean and comfortable. The beach and swim area was absolutely perfect for the kids in our group - the adults were able to monitor the swimming from the beach without having to always be in the water. The shallow beach was perfect for the youngest kids in our group, and the older kids spent hours jumping off the dock!! We also spend many hours fishing right from the dock, and it was really nice to have the boat come with the property, as we used that every day for fishing outings as well, and just to tool around and see the lake (we rented a motor from Wilson Bay Lodge, and the folks there were very helpful as well). Much time was spent reading on the front porch - there were plenty of seating for the group. We were able to enjoy a bonfire every night. The area was GREAT for cycling/rinning/hiking!!! We enjoyed the property so much that we actually never ate out or did any touristy things in Hayward, except to make trips to the store, which was close enough to make it accessible, but far enough away that we truly felt like we were \"away from it all\". Everything we needed was in the kitchen, and the grill was a very nice amenity, and we especially appreciated having so many infant/toddler supplies there that we didn\'t have to lug along with us. The view from the home was spectacular!! The photos of the property are very accurate. We saw several eagles and enjoyed many gorgeous sunsets. We had a fantastic week - we felt so welcome and well-cared for by the owner - it is obvious he puts a lot of time into making his guests comfortable. My kids are already asking when we can go back!!! Thanks for a truly memorable week, OGE!!!

beautiful and relaxing vacation

My family and I had the pleasure to return to \"Our Great Escape\" again this year. Another beautiful and relaxing vacation that we all needed. The beauty and quality of the cabin offered us a chance to enjoy each other and to enjoy the breathtaking beauty of nature. A couple days of cooler weather gave us a chance to enjoy it\'s cozy fireplace and charm, while the rest of the beautiful days gave us the chance to enjoy the beauty of the lake and the wildlife. A truly wonderfil place to relax and enjoy the pleasures that life offers. We are already counting down the days to next year!!

Unique

The cottage was everything and more than we expected. We were here with our daughters, husbands and grandchildren for our 50th wedding anniversary. We had a fabulous time and will always remember the memories we made. Our grandchildren had the time of their lives fishing everyday off the dock. We can\'t count the number of fish they caught. We were all very impressed with all the new appliances and the overall cleanliness of the entire house and grounds. If things work out that everyone can get off at the same time again, this will definitely be our first choice of where we go. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to stay at OGE.

Love this rental!

My wife and I have rented other homes on another web listing in the past and this by far is the best exoerience we had. If you read the reviews, look at the pictures, and talk to the owner, you will have no surprises. The home is exactly as represented. It is clean , neat comfortable, quiet, peaceful and secluded. The sandy shoreline is great and wonderful views of the lake. This house is in the best spot on the lake. Plenty of fish to be caught, saw bald eagles, deer, fox, loons and ducks just from sitting in the screened porch. If I were to own a home on a lake in Wisconsin, this is the house I would want. I can\'t say enough nice things about this home or the owner. You will not be disappointed. Everything was so easy from going to get a pontoon rental from Jim at Wilson\'s Bay Lodge on the lake to the welcome package provided by the owner. You will have a great experience here.

lakehouse

Our getaway could not have been better!! We were four generations and so thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our vacation time here. From the beautiful wooded setting, a comfortably clean, inviting and well-furnished house, spectacular sunsets, slow misty mornings with coffee to our time on the water boating, fishing and splashing at the sandy beach. A perfect lake for kayaks! Will always remember the evening songs of a pair of Loons, glimpses of deer, the Eagles\'s nest we discovered on our passage to the sister lake. Our memories will always be warm and wonderful in reflection. So much so that my busy attorney-nephew said that this particular vacation will always be the benchmark for all of his future vacations. The town of Hayward is fun as well. Charming and not too exploited. But most of our time we were hard-pressed to leave the lakehouse. Planning on going back for sure!

Great experience

We spent a week at OGE with two young familes. There was plenty of space to spread out and there were lots of things for the kids to do- the swing set was a huge bonus when the little ones got too cold after swimming in the lake! The lake home is in a great location- nice beach, wooded, private and quiet. Every little detail was considered and the owner was very helpful. We hope to return next summer!

beautiful and peaceful.

This is my family\'s second stay at \"Our Great Escape\". We just love it here. It is absolutely beautiful and peaceful. The lake is so quiet, which is great for family affairs or romantic getaways. The house is fully stocked with everything you could need for your stay, which makes packing a breeze. The owners are very helpful and have amazing customer service. We will for sure be coming back.

beautiful home.

My family and I enjoyed another amazing week at this beautiful home. Everythng was even better than we remembered from our stay last year and we all had a fantastic, relaxing and memorable week at this home. The home and property is set up perfectly for our group, which includes 6 adults and 6 children, ages 9-6 mos. The beach in particular is ideal for families with small children, as the kids can wade gradually into the shallow water and there is plenty of sandy beach where the little ones can play. The kids and adults LOVED the ease of fishing off the dock, the kids could not get enough of the fishing. Having the fishing boat available is a great amenity and we used it constantly for fishing trips. The house is incredibly clean and equipped with pretty much anything we needed, including some key baby supplies that were very clean as well. The house has plenty of space for everyone to relax comfortably even on rain days; we spent hours and hours reading and relaxing on the screen porch which is such a nice addition. Undoubtably the best part about this property though is the scenery and views. The setting is absolutely gorgeous and we enjoyed stunning and peaceful sunsets every night. The location of the home is ideal, set in the middle of a beautiful forest and we enjoyed several gorgeous walks and bike rides during the week. By the end of the week, all the kids were asking if we can return next year, and we look forward to returning next summer!! I just can\'t say enough about how much we have treasured our week at this home. The owner works very hard to make us feel welcome and that we have everything we need for our stay.

My family and I enjoyed

My family and I enjoyed another amazing week at this lovely Lakehouse. It was such a refreshing getaway from the day to day craziness of work. We enjoyed the absolute breathtaking beauty of the lake as well as the relaxing sounds of nature- especially the haunting beauty of the loons. This home provides all the comforts of being home. Our only problem was that the week went by too fast. Can\'t wait to return!

Beautiful property

We visited last August with our kids and grandparents. This home has everything- inside and out. Inside it\'s comfortably furnished and the kitchen is extremely well equipped. The amount of things for kids was astounding. You will have no need to bring highchairs, sippy cups, toys, etc... This place really has it all! Outside the proximity to the lake is awesome with a fantastic beach. We rented a pontoon boat from the folks at Wilson Bay Lodge and they were absolutely wonderful people. Views are incredible. Being a \"quiet lake\" is the best! No jet skis, no speed boats just the beautiful sounds of loons and eagles. We caught fish with the kids right off the dock. A great vacation for all ages. The owners are amazing to work with and the detail in communication was fantastic. We hope to return every year! Sam Fischer

Wonderful

We\'ve just returned from another wonderful vacation, at Our Great Escape. Our deepest thanks, and gratitude, to Rob for everything! The weather was beautiful, the fishing was great, and our family mase memories that we will treasure for the rest of our lives. This year we were blessed to have both of our children and their spouses, and all of our grandchildren (2 mos to 4 years old). Yet, again, we instantly felt right at home. This lake home is so large and well equipped, that we wanted nothing. THe kitchen is one of the best equipped of any vacation home we\'ve ever rented! Before you pack....check the amenities list. We over-packed, again!! The owners have put a great deal of thought, and attention, into each detail of the home....and, making sure that we all have a terrific vacation! During the week we enjoyed loons, bald eagles, deer, beautiful sunsets, bonfires by the lake... and of course, lots of great fishing! The kids enjoyed feeding the duck family, that visited the dock each evening. We love the peaceful, natural setting...and, the fact that this is one of the \"Quiet Lakes\". What a wonderful week, for our entire family!

Very relaxing!

We rented this comfortable home for TWO WEEKS this year! One week last year just did not seem to be enough. The first week we had our children and grandkids and it was lots of water activity: boating, swimming, kayaking, with a little fishing. Campfires at night and such sweet rewarding sleep. Our second week was just adults and this week of pure leisure was what vacations should be! The house offers every accomodation and comfort. It feels like you are visiting someone\'s private home, not just a rental. We fished right off of the pier and found one night\'s delivious dinner! Saw some amazing Eagle activity, and of course the loons provided the soundtrack of northern lake life. Very relaxing!

Fantastic

We had another fantastic family vacation here this year!!! This was our 3rd year in a row vacationing in this home, and every year has been even better than the previous year. The setting is gorgeous and peaceful, and the house continues to be incredibly clean and well- maintained, and everything you need is already there. The set-up is perfect for the 6 adults and 6 children (ages 18 mos-10 yrs) that we have in our party. The yard/beach/dock area is perfect for the kids to swim and play and fish all day long. (We have noticed in our 3 years coming here and riding around the lake that there are very, very few properties on the lake with a beach/walk-in access for swimming. Most properties you have to swim off of the dock, the beach is sooo nice with small kids). The kids all really enjoyed having the playset in the front yard as well. Fishing was great this year! The house is just so comfortable and welcoming and the setting is absolutely gorgeous. The owner is helpful and attentive and does everything possible to make the stay easy and comfrotable. It is the perfect place to relax and enjoy summer- we are already looking forward to our trip next year!!!! Recommended For: Families with Young Children, Age 55+, Families with Teenagers

Great House

If you\'re looking for great fishing, a great house with everything you could need or want and the perfect lake to \"get away,\" then this place is for you. This was our second year coming and we had an even better time than the first year. My wife, our 5 children, my parents and my brother stayed for the week. This place is clean, beautiful and absolutely relaxing. We experienced so many amazing moments- great sunsets as the house faces West over the lake. Eagles landing in the front yard, deer swimming across the lake and of course some great fishing. Everything is provided for you so it really reduces the strain having to plan for what to pack. They provide pack-n-plays, booster seats and strollers. Plus there are plenty of kids games to have fun with during the evening. We are repeat customers and definitely plan on coming back. This place is fantastic! Recommended for: Families with Young Children, Sightseeing, Girls Getaway, Adventure Seekers, Age 55+, Romantic Getaway, Families with Teenagers

Lovely Home

My family and I returned to this lovely home on a beautiful lake. It was immaculate and inviting. As in past years, we enjoyed the breathtaking sunrise and sunset each day as well as amazing wildlife. This beautiful home has given us a quiet and peaceful place to enjoy a week of family time making new memories and looking forward to more. I have visited the Wisconsin lakes for almost 30 years for vacation and I wouldn\'t want to stay anywhere else. We had a wonderful week

We had a wonderful week, enjoying family time together in this wonderful retreat. Celebrated birthdays for a 2yr old Grandson and 34yr old Daughter. The property is immaculate and includes amenities to be enjoyed by all ages. Peaceful Lake in a National Forest was more beautiful than we expected, even had multiple visits from apair of young deer outside the master Bedroom! Rob runs a tight ship and it shows on this property. Everything was as advertised. We\'ve already reserved a week for 2015!! Recommended for: Families with Young Children, Age 55+

Good Value

This was our second time staying at Our Great Escape. Our first time was 3 years ago. This time was as enjoyable as the first. The house is everything that is indicated. Everything a person could want is provided. We had two 12 year grandchildren and they each brought a friend. They had an absolute ball and enjoyed feeding the ducks out of their hands. We also rented a paddle boat and they were on the lake every day. We had fires almost every night. The sunrises were spectacular. The only reason we wouldn\'t go back again is the distance. It is a 5 hour drive and as we get older, it is harder to drive that far. I have a problem with walking and even though it is not \"handicap\" accessible, I had no problem getting in and out. Our Great Escape lake hous

Our Great Escape lake house is one of the best rental properties I have been lucky to stay in (which includes rentals around the world). The property is just as advertised on the internet (and more)! I was able to join my sister and her family (group of eight- ages 70+- teens). From the moment we entered the front door we felt right at home, and were welcomed by the inviting views of the lake. This is a great property for a group which allowed for miscellaneous group activities such as fishing, swimming and playing games. My favorite spot was the screened in porch where we could enjoy a quiet cup of morning coffee (or an afternoon drink) while enjoying the beautiful views over the lake, spotting the local duck family, Loons, the lake eagle and Heron. The kitchen was fully equipped and stocked (right down to any utensil you would need). The dock accomodated our rental pontoon which allowed for local fishing and a great spot to capture amazing sunset photos. I can highly recommend this property (nestled in a local forest) for a relaxing vacation spot.

Peaceful relaxing property.

Peaceful relaxing property. All furnishings are beautifully maintained and the home is spotless. Large dining room table accomodates family dining and game playing. We have rented many homes and by far this kitchen is the most well stocked we have ever enjoyed. Rob does everything to make your vacation enjoyable...we received a pre-vacation packet with detailed information and then received a welcome bag upon arrival. Our group of 8 included ages from teens to the 70\'s. I walk with a cane and was able to access all the property, enter the water easily and board the pontoon (rented) from the dock. We all caught fish and enjoyed the beautiful sunrise along with the stunning sunsets. We enjoyed the singing of the loons, the deer on the property, Eagles circling the dock and the spotting of a black bear on our way from Hayward. The screened porch is awesome for those early mornings and late evenings. Our many thanks to Rob for allowing our family the ability to truly enjoy a wonderful, beautiful property and to make lasting family memories in 2015! Romatic Getaway

We arrived to find a big beautiful, clean lake home on a lovely quiet lake. There were 10 of us getting together for a family reunion and this was one of the most comfortable and most beatuiful places we have rented. When entering the home we were pleasantly greeted with a gift bag full of goodies that we enjoyed during our week stay. The home has so many lovely amenities for a very enjoyable family get away, gas and charcoal grill, washer, dryer, dishwasher, beach toys, swing set, not to mention a very large dining room table to enjoy family dinners. The beach was nice for swimming with such wonderful outdoor seating. The large screened-in front porch with many glidders and rocking chairs was so relaxing to watch sunsets on the lake. We enjoyed many evenings at lake side with a bonfire at the beautiful bonfire pit. The pier had ample room to dock several boats and fishing was great especially off the pier. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking to relax in comfort and style and I will be renting here again!! Loved it!

For the second year in a row we enjoyed a wonderful week at OGE. It is definitely a hidden gem in the North Woods. Our three generation Family time is so easy at this perfectly outfitted Home. The Inside and Outside are so clean and well maintained. Owner Rob makes any operations items easy to execute. We enjoyed the Fireplace and Outside Pit so often, he even ordered more wood and it was delivered the same day we requested it. A quiet low wake lake makes it so nice. we have plans to return for next year too!!!

Amazing!

First-timers here, all over 55. My mother, my husband, and I had the most amazing, relaxing, enjoyable week here - just the 3 of us baking in the luxury and beauty of the house, the lake, and the woods. The first few days of our vacation were unseasonably cold, with wind, rain, and highs only in the 50\'s and 60\'s. And yet we STILL felt comfortable, relaxed, and as if we were actually on the water, with large windows and views to match. This house is very close to the lake. It\'s also spacious enough to allow plenty of privacy. The sun came out on Wednesday and from then on we hardly came indoors. It was still a bit chilly to swim much (though we tried) but we waded in the soft sand of the clear water and were satisfied. The porch was terrific, with mnay comfortable chairs. At night we had campfires, and made sure to make reservations one evening at Lost Land Lake Lodge for their famous fish fry. We rented a pontoon boat from Wilson\'s and had an exciting time exploring both lakes, Lost Land and Teal, with connecting river. Saw eagles, saw loons, saw deer. I can\'t imagine what would make this place any better. Rob made sure we \'seniors\' had all we needed, oodles of information and help. We\'re already planning to return next year.

Great

This was our 2nd time staying at \"Our Great Escape\". Three generations of my family (ages 70-15) gathered to rest, relax and enjoy the beauty of the Northwoods and that we did! The first couple of days were chilly and rainy. The power went out but within seconds, there was a seamless transition back to normal as the back-up generator kicked in. Once power was restored, the generator turned itself off. I think I want one of these for my home! Anyways, the rest of our week was great. Every morning we watch a momma duck and her ducklings swim the length of the lake frontage. My 18 year old son fished sun up til sundown. We rented boats and motors from Wilson Bay Lodge...nice new boats and motors. In my opinion, the best room in the house is the screened in porch. Plenty of seating for 8-10 people and AWESOME sunsets! There were 11 of us in all and the house was spacious enough for everyone. Rob has done a great job of making you feel right at \"home\"

We loved it!

This was our first time staying at \"Our Great Escape\" and our first visit to Lost Land Lake. The house was the perfect accommodations for our large group. There were a total of 12 of us, ages 8-76, and the spacious, open concept home allowed us to spend quality time together and never feel crowded! The home is so well maintained, comfortable and fully stocked for cooking, relaxing, playing games and winding down in the evening for a family movie night. The kitchen is a dream to cook in -- especially since you have a lovely view of the lake and yard as you prepare meals! There is a large table and island for dining at, which allowed our large group to have a big family dinner each night -- as we watched the lake and sunset of course! The backyard gently slopes down to the lake, dock and a beach area and there were more then enough comfy beach chairs and loungers for us all to relax, watch the young ones swim and fish and enjoy the peace and quiet of this pristine lake. My mother does not get around very well and it was a priority for me to find a house that had very easy access to the lake and close enought that she could watch all of the festivities. I can\'t imagine a property that would have better lake access, proximity and yard space than \"Our Great Escape\" - it was the perfect spot for our age range of guests. The sandy beach was awesome for swimming and wading in - my dad enjoyed using this shallow area to get in and out of his canoe with ease! We rented a very nice pontoon boat from Wilson Bay Lodge and went out on the water every day - except one that was a bit rainy. The lake is so clean and quiet for swimming in and of course the teenages and little ones enjoyed fishing! Mom and I enjoyed our morning coffee on the screened in porch and were treated to a visit from a heron nearly every morning -- often it would land in the yard and walk out on the dock! The screened in porch was the favorite spot of my mom who was out there every morning and evening taking in the beauty of it all. Rob is very thorough in all of his information which helped us prepare for the trip and he keeps his property in excellent condition with detailed info. to make guests feel right at home and at ease in using all aspects of the beautiful home and property. We loved our time at \"Our Great Escape\".

Beautiful home

This was our first time staying at \"Our Great Escape\" and we can\'t wait to book again next year! This place is everything as advertised and more. The family memories we created during our stay are truly priceless. The home is located in a breathtakingly beautiful National Forest. We \"ooed\" and \"ahhd\" on the drive on upper A to get there. My 6 year old daughter thought it looked like scenery right out of a fairy tale. Upon arrival, we were just blown away by the home and the lake! The place is well maintained and the layout is phenomenal for large groups! We had a total of 10 people staying there and it never seemed crowded. The kitchen is a dream for a group of any size and we shared family meals every day on the large dining table. The screened in porch was the adult favorite for morning coffees and afternoon/evening cocktails. The kids loved the beach and dock for swimming and fishing. We were lucky to be staying here during a solar storm and were able to view the Northern Lights! The best seat in the house for watching the Northern skies? The bench at the end of the dock of course! A truly remarkable moment that everone is still talking about. I highly recommend renting a pontoon from Wilson Bay Lodge. We used it to fish, swim and to just \"tootle\" around the lake. We enjoyed going down the thoroughfare to Teal Lake and the fishing on Teal was just as great as our Lost Land Lake! We cannot wait for next year and can\'t thank Rob enough for sharing this gem with us!

Very Nice

Our third year at OGE was the best yet. Super fun times with three generations of Family and celebration of two Summer Birthdays. Found a back door up to the town of Cable for Grocery and nice restaurant. Hope to rent a pontoon to see the rest of the Lake next year. Great July weather. Only one tough weather time during one night that knocked out power and Satellite TV. The generator kicked in immediately and a service tech, thanks to the owner, fixed the Dish by the end of the day. Whole unit is clean and well maintained. Very wonderful attention paid by the owner for any need. We will be back for year four!!!!

Heaven on Earth!

This was our fourth visit to Our Great Escape and it never, ever disappoints. We call it heaven on earth because not only is it beautiful, it\'s tranquil, perfectly maintained, spacious, and a lot of fun. We rented a pontoon from Wilson\'s Lodge down the road and used it all week. We boated, fished, photographed, swam, went into town (always fun!), hiked, strolled, cooked outdoors, watched the sunsets and the stars and relaxed. This year we experienced some very special moments: the breathtakingly beautiful Northern Lights!!!, a visit one evening from a doe, who stood in front of us as calm as a cat, gatherings of 7 to 9 loons, practicing feeding and socialization skills before migration, eagles and even some leftover great blue herons. One of the perfect features of this gorgeous cabin is a large and comfy screened porch, where we practically lived whenever we were in the house. We will look forward to returning next year and as long as we possibly can. This is indeed a little piece of \"heaven on earth!\"

Loved it!

This summer was our 5th year in a row renting Our Great Escape - everyone in the family refers to it as our favorite week of the year. We have 6 adults and 6 kids (ages 4-13) in our group and it is the perfect summer vacation home for us. The house is equipped with absolutely everything we need, and more. There is plenty of space, especially in the main areas and the kitchen, so even though we always seem to have great weather, the house is perfectly comfortable with a big group even on rainy days. The screen porch is perfect for relaxing, reading, enjoying morning coffee and we all spent a lot of time just watching the view of the lake from the porch. One feature of this property is that the kids can swim right from shore, without having to swim from a dock, which seems to be the case for most of the other properties on the lake. The fact that the kids can swim right from shore has made a huge difference for us since we have several small children in our group. We spend most days just swimming, fishing, and hanging out enjoying the peace and quiet of the lake. The scenery is absolutely gorgeous - either sitting looking at the lake or walking/hiking in the area. One highlight for us every year is the bike ride we take on the roads leading to the house - highly recommend bringing road bikes for the adults that have them! The owner of the house is so attentive and responsive and does everything he possibly can to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The house is always clean and property very well kept and each year the owner works hard to make improvements and upgrades to the house so it is as comfortable as we remember year after year. I really can\'t recommend this property highly enough!!!

Amazing!

We had stayed elsewhere on this lake before, but it was the first time at Our Great Escape. This has always been our favorite family vacation location and the house did not disappoint. Everyone had so much fun boating, fishing, swimming and watching the eagles fly overhead. This lakehouse is well taken care of and stocked with the neccessities to get us started on our vacation. Rob was always quick to respond to questions and very helpful with everything. Beds and furniture were all extremely comfortable. The place was very cozy, but roomy enough for my husband and I along with my son & daughters families. We are all looking forward to returning.

Beautiful property

This summer was the 6th year in a row that my family & I spent a week at OGE and it seems to get better and better each year! it is really the perfect place for our group (6 adults + 6 kids ages 4-13). The home is very comfortable, spacious, and very clean, with plenty of room for everyone to be comfortable (even on the rare occasion we get stuck inside because of rain). The home and grounds are incredibly well-mantained and almost anything you need in the kitchen or anywhere else in the house (beach toys, life jackets, etc) is already there. The owner, Rob, is incredibly accommodating and quick-to-respond, and has always done his best to provide everything we need for a wonderful and relaxing stay. Some of the best features of this property are 1) the fact that the kids can swim right from the beach in front of the house, which is rare for this lake, and 2) the large screened in porch, we spend a lot time chatting, reading, having morning coffee on that porch. The kids spend a ton of their time fishing right from the dock.We LOVE that this is a quiet lake, without the speed boat noise and traffic, the scenery is absolutely gorgeous and we\'ve seen some stunning sunsets every year. The road leading to the house is perfect for walking, running and cycling. We have rented a pontoon from Wilson\'s every year, this year we rented for the entire week, which was great and the owners at Wilsons are just wonderful and easy to work with. I really can\'t say enough about how perfect this place is for our family and how much we look forward to our week here each year. It\'s beautiful and soooo relaxing. we love it!!!!

Good views

This was our third year at Our Great Escape and the three of us (my mother, my husband, and myself) once again had a wonderful time! Mom is 86, and loves the gentle slope of the swimming area, as well as the comfortable yard and home. You\'re so close to the water it almost feels like being on a ship. There were some colder, rainy days, but we never felt hemmed in. And the place is spotless! It\'s the best place up north, ever.

Great Escape

This is our second year at our great escape. We love it here. The kids can swim right out the kitchen door. And lots of fish to be caught! Such a special time for our family. In these busy times it\'s so nice to be able to get everyone together. The house is plenty big enough for all 12 of us and very well supplied. We had a deer walk by the porch and were delighted with a family if ducks every day. We also rented a pontoon. What a nice addition. Highly recommend.

Wonderful

We spent a wonderful week with our extended family of twelve. The home was fantastic and accommodated all very comfortably. The open concept gave everyone plenty of space even at mealtime when ravenous appetites could cause tempers to flare in tighter accommodations. However, not here with a large dining room table and kitchen seating at the island giving everyone ample space while remaining together for conversation. Grandpa preferred the screened in porch where he usually could be found when not out fishing. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you would need to cook a gourmet meal. Bedrooms were all very comfortable and provided enough private space for everybody. The loft space was perfect for our kids (ages 18, 15, 13, & 11). The indoor space flowed very nicely to the outdoors where we spent most of our time. The well-kept yard had a gradual taper to the water. Water was very accessible, virtually no weeds and firm bottom until you got past the dock. Our daily ritual was float time for everyone after lunch. Even Grandma got in the water two or three times, the first time in years. The lake we used to go to was too weedy/mucky and we would never go in swimming, so this was a huge plus for us. When we booked our week, we found out pretty quick that Rob pays great attention to detail and it shows in the property. Everything is well maintained and very clean. Grandma is usually a hard one to impress when it comes to cleanliness and she was very impressed. Rob is always a phone call away if needed. We actually had a brief power outage. The generator kicked on automatically as promised and we did not miss a step in preparing dinner. A quick call to Rob eased any concerns we may have had. Power came on in less than an hour and we had no interruptions the rest of the way. The lakes themselves were great also. The two lakes combined gives plenty of places to explore, fish and swim. On our last day, the men were fishing on Teal Lake. My fifteen-year-old son stayed behind and was fishing from a kayak in front of the house. Casting a bass spinner bait, he hooked into a 45 inch musky. The musky was pulling my son and his kayak all over the little cove as he was yelling for someone to get a net! My wife, who has never been in a kayak had to jump in one and paddle out to help. My sister-in-law who was enjoying float time also paddled out on her inflatable to help. They were all able to get everything to shore with musky in tow, whom I was told was airborne several times. Nobody there could even get a bluegill off the line let alone a 45-inch musky. My wife was able to call my cell phone and we were able to get back to help with pictures and release of the mighty fish. The musky is still ruling his cove. Weve been going up north for over twenty years, but as Grandma declaredit was the best vacation yet.

Great

We love this place!

We love this place! We look forward to the peace and beauty of Lost Land Lake (and fun, too!) and always find it at Our Great Escape. Our vacations there have spanned many years and this year we decided to spend a week there in late June and 2 more weeks in late August. The house is perfect--large and sunny and immaculate, with beautiful views and privacy. The Bohde\'s have stocked it with every amenity you could possibly need. We spend our time hiking, fishing, pontooning, kayaking and passing hours with leisure time reading, sitting by the fire pit at night and watching the stars. We also enjoy taking \"road trips\" to Copper River Falls, different little towns and Hayward itself for the Monday farmers\' market. We also enjoy fly fishing on the nearby rivers. When we have to head home, we start counting the days until we can return!
