Description

In 1877 Italian masons used the silvery stone from the Appalachian Mountains to build a Victorian Gothic mansion in Chestnut Hill, now known as Silverstone Bed and Breakfast.

The prominent Jenks family, owners of several factories in Philadelphia, moved from the crowded city and established their residence in this mansion on a hill, surrounded by forest and pristine streams. Today, their home has been lovingly transformed into the Silverstone Bed & Breakfast.

In the last century, Chestnut Hill was accessible only to the wealthiest Philadelphians, and a few hundred of them built their impressive Italianvillas, grand Gothic houses, and Tudor mansions here. The next one hundred years did not change the stately look and feel of the historical town.

Nearby Germantown Avenue, with its tiny family-run stores, cafes, and restaurants continues to attract visitors for walks and shopping. Valley Green, located nearby, is one of the largest natural parks in the United States. Here one can fish for trout and go horseback riding, hiking, or climbing along the cliffs above Wissahicken Creek. Chestnut Hill is still one of the nicest places to live on the East Coast.

Whether you are visiting Philadelphia on business or pleasure, you owe it to yourself to experience the kind of gracious living that Silverstone B & B in Chestnut Hill affords. Our Silverstone B & B is visited by families from all over the world.
