Description

Tobago, the gentle and tranquil half of the nation state of Trinidad and Tobago, the most southerly islands of the Caribbean island chain, exudes a lush, relaxed gracefulness throughout its entire 16-mile length and 7-mile width. Tobago, for several years voted the world's leading Eco-tourism Destination, gently charms her callers, with the finest opportunities for eco-tourism: a pristine rain forest - the oldest protected in the western hemisphere: ... exotic birding ... mountainous grandeur ...unexpected waterfalls ...beautiful exotic birds ...protected marine parks harbouring fascinating worlds of underwater coral ...white sand beaches ... warm-hearted and generous people and the Cuffie River Nature Retreat - a rainforest retreat, mere steps away from the finest rainforest birding adventure tours.

On the edge of Tobago's rainforest, surrounded by wild heliconias, bamboo groves and ancient forest trees and cradled in the remote and idyllic Runnemede valley lies our eco-lodge, the Cuffie River Nature Retreat - a secluded rainforest retreat offering the ultimate in tropical rainforest birding and rainforest adventure tours. The retreat is a remote yet modern, upmarket facility set against a backdrop of mountains and encircled by cool, refreshing mountain streams and pools. This is nature tourism at its most subtle yet refined - allowing you a complete rainforest experience while enjoying the creature comforts of home.

The concept of this eco-tourism rerteat was born out of the rural development experience of owner/manager, Regina Dumas. Her work in this field led her throughout the Caribbean where issues affecting rural people and their livelihoods were all too evident. For Regina, the human, environmental and infrastructural factors were found to be the most significant to the well-being of the rural sector and thus played a central role in the envisioning and development of this project. The result? A beautiful blending of attractive architecture set in the midst of idyllic rainforest and with warm and welcoming hospitality awaiting every guest who enters the eco-lodge.

Nature paradise, Pure peace

This beautiful lodge located in natural beauty has it all for nature lovers. Hummingbirds zip by, and every other local bird visits the trees and feeders nearby. Regina and her staff are a delight and so welcoming. Food is delicious, fresh, and the rooms are sparkling clean, and comfortable. Thank you. We really enjoyed our stay.

A wonderful place

Wonderful and relaxing with lots of birds. Host Regina is a gem and the resident bird guide Desmond is a lovely fellow. A strange experience because the season was about to kick off and we were the only residents which was rather special. There are numerous areas in which to relax and we had the choice of them all. Very comfortable room and the building itself is rather nice. Central location for getting out and about.

Different in a very good way

What an amazing place. We booked lunch by email a couple of days ahead. We weren't staying. The food was the best we have had in Tobago and although a set lunch, the owner asked us about dietary issues and preferences in advance to make sure we would be happy. 200 TT per head, 3 courses, water, amazing star fruit juice, and tea or coffee. Lovely ambiance, next to nature, amazing lady owner. Don't miss it.

A piece of peace and joy in the forest

We stayed three nights and had a wonderful time. The pool is a treat beng salt water not chlorine. The grounds are great looking down and into the forest with plenty of birds to watch (I guess the prize was a white winged nightjar). Desmond is the expert (he is really good) and a trip out with him is well worth it. Dinners were good, breakfasts excellent. I can really recommend Cuffie for a stay.

A wonderful stay

So beautiful. Cuffie is on the edge of the rain forest and is surrounded by trees and birds. The deluxe room was spacious and airy with comfortable beds and amazing solar heated shower. The feeling of space... balconies and seating provide opportunities for viewing the landscape and birds from all parts of the building. Love the pool and the food. The staff are ver welcoming and go one step beyond to make you happy and Regina and her husband are great hosts
