Off season special (November through April) Pay for four nights and the fifth night is free! Mile View is a cottage built on the shores of the beautiful and private Mountain Island Lake. Much of this lake is parklands, wildlife, sanctuaries and properties restricted from development. This home was built in 1952 by Ben Douglas, long time Charlotte Mayor and name sake of the Charlotte Douglas Airport. It was common at that time for Charlottes wealthier residents to have little lake cabins for vacation homes.
 
This cabin has provided decades of lakefront fun and fishing. Inside and out the place looks very much like it did in 1952. Years ago the house was divided into two separate apartments. In 2011 we converted the upstairs into a vacation rental. We provide high speed wireless wifi, flat screen TV's, comfortable furniture but you can get most of that at a Holiday Inn. The unique experience you get with a stay here is that little step back in time. It starts when you pull in to the skinny gravel drive and end up at a plain but well kept mid-century home. There are paneled walls unit a/c and no dishwasher. No subdivision, no pool, no tennis courts. There are only two other neighbors. There is a 1 bed room unit below that is also available for rent Unless you plan on renting both units you should be planning a quiet stay. Prior guests that have most enjoyed Mile View spend much of their time on the screened porch overlooking the lake. Mile View was built right on the lake's shoreline. You are so close to the boats going by you can see right inside them. At night when they cruise by you could truly join in their conversation. The place is very popular and in our decade of leasing it we have had close to 1000 guests. In that time we have learned that Rosella is not for everyone. We have tried our best to accurately describe the "experience." If that slow paced step back in time is not what you are looking for you may not enjoy Mile View, if on the other hand, you would like to relive the way things used to be or experience it for the first time we don't think you will be disappointed. We look forward to your arrival. There is a rental boat service right at the dock.. Rental fee is discounted $50 per day for guests. (Retail is 350 to 450 per day.) This rate is lower than the going rate in the area. Boat rental is scheduled and operated separately from the vacation rental. It is strongly advised that you reserve it prior to your stay. A security deposit and application is required in advance. FYI The hot tub, fire pit and dock are all in common areas.
 
There is a small family of feral cats that live on the property. They are very sweet and will steer clear of you but may look in a window. We feed them and built them a couple of apartments. If you have a pet that is aggressive with cats you may want to consider

We spent Christmas with our grandson at the lake house was extremely comfortable for us. Enjoyed the lake view immensely. My grandson wants to come back in the summer sometime so he can utilize jumping off the dock. The host was very accommodating with suggestions in the area, as well as coming and unlocking us promptly when we locked ourselves out….we highly recommend to anyone and if in fact we ever come back to this side of the country would love to book again.

Girls weekend


Perfect for my daughter and granddaughter to share time with mammaw. The location was so close to the aquarium and downtown Science Discovery. We enjoyed watching the rowing teams practice and all the other boats out on the lake. Everyone wants to come back again!

The place is exactly what is shown in pictures. Unbelievable! The view of the water is perfect especially at night. Hot tub is clean. The host Bob responds quickly and is polite. I would definitely come back again it’s worth the stay.

The pictures do not do it justice! The views hit you in the face the second you walk into the apt???? This was a mother daughter trip, with my mom and sister. Despite the freezing temps, we thoroughly enjoyed playing games, cozy inside while taking in the lake views ?? Bob was not only helpful in restaurant and trail suggestions, but he is super friendly! We anticipate coming back!! Thanks Bob and Kim!
