Description

Agriturismo Romitorio is a farmhouse on the border between Umbria and Tuscany, between the provinces of Siena and Perugia, nearby Castiglione del Lago, 5 kilometres from lake Trasimeno. Its seventeenth-century church, dedicated to Saint Anthony the Abbot, is testimony to its deep historical roots. The farmhouse is open all year around for country holidays, week-long breaks and weekends. It consists of 11 apartments, each with its own separate kitchen, with swimming pool and tennis court. The Romitorio is set in an ideal position for excursions to Siena, Arezzo, Montepulciano, Pienza, Cortona, Chianciano Terme, Perugia, Assisi, Gubbio, Città della Pieve, Passignano and Panicale. The country house is at the heart of a very historically and artistically interesting area dating back to the Etruscans: museums, churches, historical buildings are home to the works of painters such as Pietro Perugino and other masters of the renaissance. The Tuscan jewels of the Val di Chiana and the Val d’Orcia make this area particularly interesting for lovers of italian typical food. Highlights are the prized Chianina meat and Pienza’s \"cacio pecorino\" cheese. Several of the most famous wines of Italyare made in the nearby countryside: Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Colli del Trasimeno, Chianti dei Colli Senesi and Brunello di Montalcino. The local oil mills provide the chance to sample the estate’s freshly-pressed olive oil.

At only 20 kilometres away Chianciano Terme is home to the hot-spring spas of the Terme Sensoriali, a place for restoring energy, balance and well-being. For lovers of the countryside of Tuscany there is a lovely safe 64 kilometre route, on the banks of the Chiana canal, along the Sentiero della Bonifica, at 4 kilometres from our estate, from Chiusi to Arezzo, for walking or bike excursions, ideal for families. The nearby outlet in Bettolle is especially good for shopping with hundred of the best fashion brands discounted up to 70%. Besides being a real Renaissance jewel, Montepulciano has reinvented itself for movie lovers as the location for the film ‘New Moon’. Meanwhile the UNESCO world heritage site of Pienza is also worth a visit for its wonderful Sant’Anna in Camprena, the former fifteenth-century Olivetan Benedictine monastery where key scenes from ‘The English Patient’ were filmed. Sports-lovers can go horse-riding, walking, play golf, sail and surf at lake Trasimeno and partake in other seasonal activities around the farmhouse. There is also a very lively music scene with Trasimeno Blues, Soul Christmas, Umbria Jazz and an array of other events. A holiday in Umbria is not complete without attending its festivals and feasts, organized throughout the year, allowing the guest of country house Romitorio to come into contact with inhabitants of the small surrounding settlements, adding the human touch to a holiday that large cities cannot offer.
