Description

Set in a charming rural location, Lakeside Lodge overlooks its own 7-acre lake, private pine forest, native bush and grass pastureland. The Lodge is of log construction making use of local, sustainable natural resources. The interior has been designed with comfort in mind using a variety of wood, leather and textiles. Everything from the comfortable sofas and the log fire to the huge picture windows ensure that you can relax and unwind during your stay.

Our large open kitchen with a wood burning cooker has an adjoining dining area where guests can relax and dine together if they wish. Over the summer months you may prefer to eat al fresco on the large shaded veranda, also ideal for watching the sun go down over Mt Arthur while sipping a glass of local Nelson wine. The farm and large vegetable garden provide most of the fresh produce from which we prepare delicious evening meals, supplemented if need be with other local seasonal foods - please let us know in advance if you wish to indulge. If you are arriving late or just unsure of your arrival time, a light supper platter can be prepared without prior arrangement.

Because the Nelson region has the most sunshine hours in New Zealand, breakfast is often taken on the veranda. It usually includes cereals, yoghurts, toast, homemade jams, fresh seasonal berries from the garden along with something delicious cooked from the kitchen. The farm has sheep, cattle, ducks, geese and chickens and you are welcome to stroll the grounds or take a walk up into the pine forest. Surrounded by native bush, New Zealand bird life is in abundance - listen out for bellbirds, tui, and fantails - frequently seen and heard from the veranda. Of course you are only a stroll from the Motueka River if you want to try your hand at catching your own brown trout before breakfast (or after dinner, or any time at all...).
