Description

Welcome to our Historic Log Cabin – the perfect secluded get-a-way near the town of Escalante, Utah and close to the many scenic canyons, plateaus and vistas of the Dixie National Forest and the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. This cabin was originally constructed by Isaac Riddle in 1899. Mr. Riddle also built two other houses in the nearby community of Escalante and this cabin was his summer home. In the early 1960’s a gentleman by the name of Jason Day bought the cabin and brought his bride, Amanda Blake to this house on their honeymoon. Amanda Blake is well-known as “Miss Kitty” the proprietor of the Long Branch Saloon on the television show – Gunsmoke.

The Rex family purchased the home in 1982 and began restoration in 1999. The cabin, now over 100 years old, was moved from the meadow to the Historic Log Cabinhillside overlooking the Escalante River. The logs were taken apart and numbered so that they could be reassembled in their proper sequence. The logs were milled in a nearby town so they would be uniform in size and then reassembled at the present location. The cabin still caries the ambience of the original log construction but has the many modern necessities needed to make your stay very relaxing and enjoyable.
