Description

offers unpretentious yet sophisticated and elegant accommodations. Our location is unique insofar that our guests enjoy absolute privacy. There are no visible structures in the vicinity. You enjoy magnificent views of the Pacific ocean from nearly every angle, with sunsets to die for. To the south of us is a large expanse of untouched rainforest. During green season you can also enjoy a waterfall with a natural jacuzzi on our property.

The road that leads up to Villa Montemeru is private and well maintained all year round. The driveway leading up to the house is made of concrete. Once you arrive, you are immediately taken in by the panoramic views. Since we are not directly on the main road you are not affected by noise and dust.

The house is custom furnished with beds, tables, chairs and closets in various tropical hardwoods. There are altogether four bedrooms, each with private entrance, private bathroom and deck or terrace. All beds come with top of the line mattresses and 100% cotton linens. The windows and French doors are oversize and offer magnificent ocean views. Three of the bedrooms have a king size bed each, while the fourth comes with two queen size beds. The master bedroom features a 42" wall-mounted flat panel Smart TV with Satellite TV reception and Bluetooth stereo system. All bedrooms have ceiling fans that keep the interior cool at all times. The bathrooms are tiled in either ceramic, marble or natural stone, with eclectic accents that give each of them a unique look. Solar hot water systems automatically switch to electricity in the rare event that there isn't enough sun. The ground floor features a sunken kitchen, a pavilion style dining and recreational area, a large roofed yoga deck with chill-out lounge beds and hammocks, as well as the crystal clear infinity pool maintained with a minimum of chemicals. The kitchen comes fully equipped with all necessary appliances, high quality stainless steel cookware, potable filtered water, centrifugal juicer, blender, an espresso machine, WiFi and stereo system.

The house and surrounding structures are set within gardens replete with tropical fruit trees and flowering ornamental plants, butterflies and iguanas. Frequent visits by exotic birds and monkeys are to be expected. The sun sets in the Pacific ocean right in front and regales the visitor with a daily changing spectacle. Our guests enjoy absolute privacy in an atmosphere of exquisite tranquility. There are two lovely beaches within five walking minutes and four restaurants also within walking distance.

House cleaning and laundry service Monday, Wednesday & Friday. Daily pool service, except Saturday & Sunday. Private chef service available at request. We are happy to arrange any type of recreational activities, such as fishing, snorkeling and boat tours, horseback riding tours, surf lessons, SUP tours, zip line adventures, quad and vehicle rentals, as well as domestic travel arrangements.

Mal País, originally a sleepy fishing village at the northern periphery of Costa Rica's first National Park, the Riserva Absoluta Cabo Blanco, today still retains much of its original tranquility and picturesque charm. Just as in days past, the fishermen arrive each afternoon with their daily catch, which they offer to the public. You won't find fresher fish than that. Being more residential, Mal País boasts only a handful of hotels and restaurants along the main road, but the hills are dotted with luxury homes and celebrity hideaways. The village is blessed with a picturesque landscape and the world class surf of Playa Carmen, which attracts surfers from all around the world. The name Mal País, also written Malpaís, allegedly comes from a stone found in the area which the indigenous Chorotega natives called Mah Pah and was subsequently bastardized into Malpaís by the Spanish conquistadors.

Only a couple of miles up the road, Santa Teresa has all the hustle and bustle of a growing tourist attraction, with its hotels, restaurants, bars and shopping. But no matter how busy the main road, the beaches are always uncrowded, with a year round warm Pacific ocean in front and lush tropical vegetation behind.

Being one of the premier surf destinations in Costa Rica, the waves are the main attraction that lure visitors. But other recreational opportunities abound. Fishing and snorkeling tours, horseback riding along the beach or in the hills, gliding through the rain forest canopy on zip lines, hiking, exotic bird watching or just lying on a quiet but not entirely secluded beach and getting that healthy tan from an ozone rich stratosphere above, it all adds up to bliss.

For those looking for entertainment the area offers a wide variety of attractions such as various bars, full moon beach parties with international DJ's, Cafes and a weekly organic produce and flea market.

Our area also offers a variety of yoga studios, Tai Chi, massage therapists, chiropractors as well as other alternative health and wellness practitioners for those that enjoy healthy living in a stress free environment.

There are great restaurants along the beaches, two Japanese Sushi Bars, Cafes as well as three European style bakeries. The southern Nicoya Peninsula combines breathtaking nature with high quality living. Come and enjoy it in the first class setting of Villa Montemeru.

Outstanding

My wife and I took our four young-adult children and, for 3 of them, their significant other, to this villa at Mal Pais for a weeklong stay. From this property the view of the Pacific Ocean, sunsets, and jungle canopy is no less than extraordinary. The villa sits on a beautiful forested hillside away from the dust of the Mal Pais/Santa Teresa beach road, yet it\'s a moderate walk to the sea shore. We rented a vehicle so we could get out a bit to surrounding towns and sights. I\'d recommend that you plan on doing so for part of your stay, unless you want to hang out mostly around the pool-- which certainly isn\'t out of the question-- or unless you\'re a dedicated walker. The facility was perfect for us-- nice infinity pool with nearby shower and bathroom; large open-air (but covered) poolside dining/gathering facility with comfortable tables and furniture, large bar/dining counter, and a a modern sunken kitchen with all necessary appliances; four spacious sleeping quarters each with its own beds, couches, bathroom, shower, closet, and separate deck. The pool and premises are well-lit at night. The owners were warm, always accessible, and obviously wanted our stay to be a great one, which it was.

Perfection

Five of us just returned from a week at Villa Montemeru. We couldn\'t have been happier with the house, which is even more beautiful than the pictures and description suggested. The layout and decor are thoughtful and stylish, the indoor/outdoor kitchen and living room are gorgeous, the beds are comfortable, and the views of the ocean, jungle, and sunsets to die for. Mariella was an excellent host, welcoming but discreet, and gave us excellent suggestions for local beaches, food shopping, and restaurants. Although we ate out a few times in Santa Teresa and Malpais, we really preferred long, relaxed evenings in the house, with Ray and Marlie, the two adorable ridgebacks. The region is beautiful, though the roads are sometimes rough and dusty. The house is situated high above the road and is therefore secluded and quiet, except for the wonderful noises of the jungle. One word of caution - the jungle and its wildlife are all around and very present, and if that doesn\'t interest you, this might not be the best area to stay in. All in all, the location, the house, and the welcome make Villa Montemeru paradise. I hope we\'ll be back soon.

Absolutely Spectacular

Wow! This place was AMAZING! We where 2 families traveling together, and we had the pleasure of staying in this spectacular home for a week. What a treat it was! From the second we arrived we felt as though we were in a castle. The view was absolutely stunning. The house and land radiates pure magic... And the sunsets... Absolutely breathtaking. The owner Daniel is a bright, entertaining, kind, happy, helpful, smart, wonderful, human being. It was a treat of it\'s own just to have the pleasure of meeting him. The people who work around the property were wonderful and helpful as well. The dogs were great company, very sweet, and the kids loved them. We will definitely be coming back to stay here when we return! Thank you Daniel for the hospitality! Blessings!

Beyond SPECTACULAR!

I can honestly say that this home was the most SPECTACULAR home we have ever rented through VRBO. the pictures really do not show how truly amazing this property is! All four bedrooms are equally spectacular, balconies and hammocks with comfortable furniture to lounge in . The beds are comfortable and the open air with ceiling fans are all that is needed. You do not need air conditioning in this home. The infinity pool overlooking the ocean is incredible. I never wanted to get out of it! The sunken large kitchen is well appointed, and the outdoor living space is top notch, and also very comfortable. Marley and Rey the resident dogs are so sweet and are never a bother. The owner Daniel is present only to care for the dogs and keep his beautiful landscaping watered. It truly is paradise. The driveway is however very steep.....so be carefull if you\'ve had a few too many cocktails in the pool! I do not recommend walking to the beach... Going down the drive is ok, it\'s the coming back up that is killer! We did have a very large beetle in our bathroom sink one morning....but with the openness of the house I expected a few critters, and we only had a few. I hope to return to villa montmeru at another time. It truly was a vacation I will always remember!

Way more than expected

3 other couplesn and us decided to choose this house for our costarrican retreat and it was so much more than expected. It has a large common area with kitchen, living room and dining for 8 ppl right in front of a stunning pool all with ocean views. Then, each of us had a our private bedroom with bathroom and private balconies all with views of the ocean as well. During the day you can enjoy the house and wildlife and at night, its not only the wildlife but also leaving the windows open so you can enjoy the breeze and surroundings. Its simply a unique house and so much more than expected. I would totally recommended to any adults, just not kids

Amazing...did I mention how Amazing?

First let me state that I have used many rentals through some sort of Rental by owner website and Daniel is by the far the most helpful, patient and kind owner we have rented from thus far. Though we were not able to meet him (booo, I wanted to thank him in person) he is a fantastic host. Thank you for everything. Now to the Villa, the pictures do not do this place justice. We rented this home to be the location for our 10-year wedding anniversary/vow renewal ceremony and I\'m so glad I didn\'t go with a modern/Hollywood style beach home. This is pure Costa Rican Art/Architecture. We are spending 7 days here (yes still here) and our group( 5 adults) is simply amazed by this home. The pictures cannot show how large and beautiful each bedroom is, the staircase leading to each bedroom is something you would see out of a movie. Each bedroom has a private bath and shower, plus there is one on the lower level by the outdoor shower for when you are spending time by the pool or cooking in the kitchen. I am an avid cook and the kitchen was amazing. I was very impressed with the high quality cuisinart pots and pans with a layer of copper heat distribution. This is a major plus for those who love to cook. The views are amazing from all angles. You fall asleep to the sounds of various birds and awake to the howler monkeys in the distance. You will be visited by iguanas, bats, and insects but don\'t be discouraged..It\'s all part of being surrounded by jungle. Please be diligent with the compost bucket and garbage can. His property is beautiful with amazing tropical plants plus a greenhouse and the compost is needed. The hill to the house is beyond steep but we rented ATVs from Pacific Dirt Roads and had no problems going up the driveway in 2nd or 3rd gear. Lola and Carlos are wonderful staff and you will be truly amazed by this home, host, staff, the residential dogs who would followed me everywhere (Ray) especially, and the views. Please book..You will not be disappointed. One last thing, if you are worried about no AC, don\'t..being on a hill, with massive windows and the fans will keep you cool all night and sleep like a baby. Thank you again Daniel for everything, you and your home are both truly amazing. Pura Vida!!!

Leisure and Adventure

It was a big contrast to the snowy and cold Austrian mountains. So we enjoyed the warm climate and during this time of the year \"mosquito free\" surounding very much. We were a group of 6 and enjoyed ourselfs in an amazing location with a stunning pool, a well equipped kitchen, tasteful decorated sleeping rooms and breauthtaking sunsets. Several local options for activities like surfing, horse riding, canopy, visiting waterfalls etc. gives boredom no chance. Daniel (Owner) as well as his employees were very pleasant and helpful in all different aspects. We really enjoyed our stay and strongly recommend this location - it was great. P.S. Due to several unpaved partly adventurous roads in this region of Costa Rica I would recommend a four wheel driven SUV.
